Figs

We got our first fig tree in 2017. My husband had wonderful memories of eating these delectable little fruits when he was a young adult living down south, so we purchased a Hardy Chicago, plopped it in the ground in the fall of 2017 and eagerly waited for spring and the reawakening of our little fig. Fast forward several months to late June and our little tree looks exactly the same as it did the previous fall-minus the leaves. We were sure it was dead. Instead of dig it up, however, we decided to wait. FINALLY, in July it started to show some signs of life. The top growth had indeed died but thankfully the roots had survived and began to push out new growth from the ground. While our tree did grow some that first summer it didn’t realize its potential due to its late start which prompted my husband to do some research on wintering figs. The next winter we wrapped our little tree in a blanket covered with a tote. Unfortunately, it still died back to the ground. BUT it awoke much earlier and grew substantially the following spring. Now, 5 years later, we’ve learned a few things about growing and wintering our special little trees. My husband took an interest in rooting cuttings in the spring of 2021 which has now led to us owning over 30 varieties of which we are attempting to propagate and sell as small, started trees. Below is a list of our current varieties many of which we will be offering for sale in a few months (Spring 2022). If you have any questions about our fig trees or caring for them please contact us. My husband would love to share what he knows and has learned!
